Wonderful 50th Anniversary Dinner

The 50th Anniversary Dinner last Saturday evening was a wonderful success. The 130 members and guests, who included MUS conductor for 20 years, Margot McLaughlin, our accompanist for 30 years, Joy Lalchere, and our principal conductor, Sarah Penicka-Smith, were treated to a great night of awards, merriment and entertainment. It was worthy of a 50 years celebration. Congratulations to all involved.

Special thanks are due to Sharon Finn for organising the dinner. Without her enormous effort it would not have happened. She was well assisted by Megan Dunn who also put in a great effort. We cannot thank them enough. Others I should particularly mention are Roz Avakian (arrangements with the club), Erica Wallace (photobooks), Joan Scott (the trivia quiz and other ways), Corinna Horrigan (photo presentations), Sue Bockerman and Michael Young (our entertainment later in the evening). Many others assisted and also deserve our thanks.

Special thanks also to the incomparable Anthony Pasquill whose wit and good humour as MC and beautiful musicianship set the tone for the evening and helped make it such a success.

As I said on the evening, it requires a lot of hard work and perseverance over many years by many people to keep an organisation like MUS prospering for 50 years and beyond. The dinner gave us an opportunity to celebrate their achievements. The other major factor in MUS’s continuing success is the enormous enjoyment and sense of achievement we all get from the special shared experience of singing beautiful music together as a choir. There is nothing else quite like it. Long may it continue.

Purcell Publicity Photo

We are seeking some MUS choristers to dress up and attend a publicity photo shoot, 4.00pm-5.00pm Saturday 2nd September. We are meeting just outside Lane Cove National Park, in the car parking strip along Lady Game Drive near the corner of Fullers Rd (Map). When dressing up, we want you to think ‘a night at the opera’ – no fairy wings or fancy dress, just formal dresses/suits. Block colours for frocks are better than different coloured separates. I’ve attached some sample images in the links below to give you an idea of what we’re after. There are no single colours to which you’re restricted – we’ll mix and match you in small groups to get eye-catching combinations.
