URGENT – Music for the Rehearsal on Monday 9 July at RMCC

Please download and print four MUS2 music scores (An Irish Blessing, Come Again!, The Crown of Roses and The Parting Glass) and bring them with you for the rehearsal on Monday evening. You can access the scores at Music Scores section of MUS Website. It would be very helpful if all members with printers could print some extra copies for those members who cannot print or who miss this news.

Congratulations on Sublime Romantics

Congratulations to all who performed in or helped with the beautiful Sublime Romantics concert. The near-capacity audience loved it and I am sure every member of the choir loved singing in it.

Thanks are due first and foremost to our principal conductor, Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith, who devised the program of music, organised the soloists and string orchestra, worked on all aspects of the concert and coached and inspired the choir to a fine performance.
Special thanks to the wonderful soloists, Karen Bruce, Warren Fisher and Javier Vilarino, organist Nico Tjoelker, concertmaster Tess Duflou and all the members of the excellent string orchestra. As usual Mel Penicka-Smith stage managed the event flawlessly. Thanks also to our rehearsal accompanist, Jo Allan, and our assistant conductor, Erzsi Marosszeky.
Prath Thillainathan deserves special thanks for his work as concert manager. Special thanks also to Erica Wallace for producing the program, Michael Young for his beautiful poster design work, Louise Stow for front of house, Roz Avakian for publicity, Fran Cuneen for ticket sales, Sharon Finn for looking after the finances and the many other members who also made significant contributions. Thank you one and all.
We are also grateful to the Turramurra Uniting Church for being most accommodating and providing a beautiful venue.

Thanks From Sarah

Congratulations on your performance, everyone. I’m sorry I missed the chance to come and speak to you but audience kept coming into the orchestra’s dressing room and I couldn’t get out fast enough to speak to you all. The concert had some gorgeous moments and was very well received. I was also impressed with your professionalism – overall, I think this concert ran the most smoothly out of all the concerts we’ve done together, which I think also improves the experience for everyone. The Schubert was particularly good – my highlight was the Credo, which I think you sang with great sensitivity, and Mel’s was the Gloria, because you had a cracking start to that one. Thank you to everyone who helped, who sang, and who supported the choir.

Rehearsals and Workshop at Epping Baptist Church

Two of the rehearsals in July, on Monday 16 July and Monday 23 July, will be at the Epping Baptist Church, 1-5 Ray Road, Epping. On 23 July we will be cutting short the rehearsal so that we can have some social drinks at the Epping Club nearby.
On Saturday 4 August we will be returning to the Epping Baptist Church for a special ‘bring a friend’ workshop from 2pm – 5pm followed by a social gathering at the Epping Club. The workshop will be part of a membership drive and we ask members to bring along friends and acquaintances who may be interested in singing to experience the enjoyment of singing with the choir. Please make every effort to attend the workshop and bring a friend. We also hope you and your guests will join in the social drinks afterwards.

Invitation to Sing The Armed Man at Sydney University in November

Members who are familiar with Jenkins’ The Armed Man may wish to take up an invitation to join in the performance of the work at Sydney University on 3 November 2018. For details click here.

Sarah has requested that MUS members be exempt from the compulsory rehearsal on Monday 15 October as its the week before our concert. While we’re keen for MUS members to take advantage of this offer, we hope they won’t miss that particular MUS rehearsal.
